SIGNAGE / BUYER’S GUIDE
Choosing the Right
Channel Letter Sign.
Face-lit, halo-lit or a combination: make the lighting work for your brand and building.
Channel letters give a name or logo depth on a façade. This guide explains the construction, lighting choices and practical details that shape the finished sign.

THE BASICS
What is a channel letter sign?
A channel letter is an individually fabricated, three-dimensional letter, number or logo element. Several elements together form a sign that follows the business name and brand artwork. Letter depth, shape, scale and spacing can be tailored to the façade.
The return forms the sides of each letter, while the face and back are specified according to the lighting effect. Aluminium, acrylic and stainless steel are common options. A sign may be illuminated with LEDs or left unlit when the setting calls for a quieter dimensional treatment.
COMPARE THE EFFECT
Four approaches to channel letters.
The original article compares front illumination, reverse illumination and a combined treatment. An unlit dimensional letter is also worth considering.
01 / BRIGHT FACE
Front-lit channel letters
Light passes through an acrylic or other suitable translucent face. Metal returns and backs define the letter body; LED modules inside provide illumination. Face colour, diffusion and trim details are specified for the desired appearance.
02 / SOFT GLOW
Halo-lit channel letters
A solid letter face directs the light back towards the mounting surface. Spacers create room for a halo around the form. The wall colour, texture and setback influence the final effect, so a sample or lighting review can be useful.
03 / TWO LIGHTING DIRECTIONS
Face-and-halo-lit letters
A combined construction lights the front of the letter and casts a glow behind it. Colour, brightness and separate lighting circuits can be planned around the brand and site, rather than relying on a fixed colour pairing.
04 / DIMENSIONAL FORM
Non-illuminated letters
Acrylic or metal letters can also work without internal lighting. Their depth, finish and the site’s natural or architectural lighting carry the visual impact.

DESIGN DECISIONS
How do you choose the right letter?
The best sign is shaped by its viewing distance, façade, brand artwork and maintenance needs.
01 / Visibility. Check the size, contrast and viewing angle from the street and the closest approach.
02 / Construction. Select letter depth, acrylic or metal components and a finish suited to the interior or exterior location.
03 / Lighting. Decide whether the face, the wall behind the letters, both surfaces or neither should be illuminated.
04 / Installation. Review the supporting surface, fixings, cable route, electrical provision, access and local approval requirements.
BEYOND ONE LETTER STYLE
Related signage options.
The original page also describes acrylic letters, metal lettering and freestanding signs. These can form part of a wider signage package.
Illuminated acrylic signs
Acrylic faces or letters can create a bright, even appearance when paired with a properly specified LED system and suitable mounting components.
Stainless steel letters
Polished, brushed or coated metal letters give entrances and company logos a defined dimensional finish. Grade and finish are selected for the setting.
Pylon and monument signs
Freestanding structures can identify a site from its entrance or approach road. Structure, foundations, visibility and approvals are planned for the location.
BORAN REKLAM / OUR APPROACH
From site information to finished sign.
Founded in Istanbul in 2006, Boran Reklam manufactures retail branding and signage in a 1,600 m² production facility. Scope, timing and installation are confirmed for each project.
Survey and project review
Site photographs, dimensions, brand guidelines and access details guide the technical review. A site survey can be arranged where required by the agreed scope.
Manufacturing and finishing
Letters and fabricated structures are developed to the approved design, with acrylic, aluminium, stainless steel, selected RAL finishes and LED options as appropriate.
Delivery and installation
Signs are packed for their destination. Installation can be coordinated across Türkiye; international delivery and local installation responsibilities are agreed for each project.
MORE THAN A SINGLE SIGN
A wider production perspective.
Boran Reklam’s production work extends to large-format graphics, lightboxes, exterior branding, vehicle graphics and other retail display components. This can help coordinate signage with the wider visual language of a store or commercial space.
The earlier article also mentioned FayansArt, 3DAdworks and scrolling display systems as part of the company’s broader creative history. For this project, the priority is an approved sign specification that fits your brand, building and delivery programme.
