ILLUMINATED RETAIL GRAPHICS
Print Engineered Around Light.
A backlit graphic must be evaluated in two different states: with the light switched off and with the light switched on. The same artwork can look washed out, too dark or correctly balanced depending on the material and ink-layer structure.
At Boran Reklam, we select the printing strategy around the required day-and-night appearance. Our swissQprint and Océ Arizona systems enable single-layer, double-density and CMYK–White–CMYK multilayer production for compatible backlit applications.
OUR SOLUTIONS
Backlit Graphics for Every Display Format.
The printed face is selected according to the frame, lighting technology, viewing distance, change frequency and campaign objective.
01
UV Backlit Fabric
UV-printed textile graphics chosen for high ink density, vivid colour and rich dark tones in illuminated SEG frames.
02
Multilayer Backlit Film
Single, double or CMYK–White–CMYK printing selected according to how the graphic must appear with the light on and off.
03
Printed Acrylic
Direct printing on white acrylic or reverse printing behind clear acrylic for exceptional sharpness and a protected ink surface.
04
Translucent Vinyl
Self-adhesive translucent graphics for compatible acrylic, polycarbonate and prepared illuminated sign faces.
05
Double-Sided Displays
Coordinated graphic faces for freestanding and suspended lightboxes viewed from both directions.
06
Replacement Campaign Graphics
Store-ready replacement faces for existing frames, new collections, launches and seasonal promotions.
LIGHT CHANGES EVERYTHING
Designed for the Lightbox—not Only the Printer.
When illuminated, a graphic can reveal weak blacks, reduced colour saturation and tonal changes that are not visible on the production table. We control the result through the material profile, ink density and—when required—a multilayer print structure.

BACKLIT FILM TECHNOLOGY
Three Print Structures. Three Different Results.
The number and sequence of ink layers determine how a backlit film appears during the day and after illumination. We produce the required layer structure on our swissQprint and Océ Arizona printers.
STANDARD OUTPUT
Single-Layer CMYK
A single ink layer gives the film a conventional printed appearance when the lightbox is off. Once illuminated, transmitted light reduces the perceived density and the colours appear lighter.
Best considered when: the illuminated result can be intentionally lighter or production speed is the main priority.
ILLUMINATED PRIORITY
Double CMYK
Two colour layers increase density. The graphic appears darker while the light is off, but reaches its intended colour strength when illuminated.
Best considered when: the lightbox remains illuminated for most of the viewing period.
DAY & NIGHT COLOUR
CMYK–White–CMYK
A white separation layer is printed between two CMYK images. This balances the front-facing image when unlit with the transmitted colour required when the lightbox is on.
Key advantage: more accurate colour in both illuminated and non-illuminated conditions.
BACKLIT FABRIC TECHNOLOGY
Why We Choose UV Printing for Backlit Fabric.
For our backlit fabric applications, we prefer UV printing over Latex or solvent workflows. The higher ink density of UV printing produces more vivid colours and gives dark artwork the visual strength it needs when illuminated.
Dye-sublimation is widely used for backlit textiles and can be effective for many applications. In our production experience, however, it may not achieve the same saturation in deep and dark colours. We therefore specify UV printing when rich colour density is central to the project.
ACRYLIC BACKLIT PRINTING
Exceptional Detail on Rigid Lightbox Faces.
Acrylic offers the highest image quality among our backlit print options, with a crisp, premium surface suited to displays where detail and finish are decisive.
Printing on White Acrylic
The image is printed directly onto a white acrylic face selected for the intended illuminated appearance.
Reverse Printing on Clear Acrylic
The image is printed in reverse on the rear surface. The acrylic protects the ink from direct contact, virtually eliminating scratching of the printed surface during normal use.
Format consideration: rigid acrylic becomes difficult to transport and install at very large sizes. For this reason, backlit fabric is increasingly preferred for large-format retail lightboxes.

AUTOMATED PREPRESS
Reliable Data for Complex Rollouts.
Using Caldera PrimeCenter, we can process project data and artwork variations through a controlled prepress workflow. This helps reduce manual errors when a campaign includes many stores, sizes and versions.
MATERIAL-SPECIFIC COLOUR PROFILES
Colour Control Built into Every Backlit Workflow.
Dedicated colour profiles for the backlit materials we use are already established on our printing systems. The correct profile is paired with the selected media and ink-layer method to create a predictable result.
We continuously monitor colour accuracy and production consistency so that graphics remain aligned across repeat orders, different formats and multi-store campaign batches.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Backlit Graphics, Explained.
Technical answers for brands, agencies and retail teams planning an illuminated graphics project.
With a single CMYK layer, light passes through the ink and reduces its perceived density. As a result, the colours become lighter when illuminated. Increasing the ink density or using a multilayer structure changes this day-and-night behaviour.
It is a three-layer print structure consisting of a CMYK image, a white separation layer and a second CMYK image. This configuration is designed to maintain a more accurate colour appearance both when the lightbox is off and when it is illuminated.
Single-layer CMYK can look correct when unlit but lighter when illuminated. Double CMYK increases density, so the print looks darker while unlit and reaches stronger, more accurate colour when the light is on. The method is selected according to the primary viewing condition.
We prefer UV printing because its ink density produces vivid colour and stronger dark tones under illumination. Although dye-sublimation is widely used for backlit textiles, our experience is that it may provide less saturation in deep-colour artwork.
Yes. We cut and sew the silicone edges for backlit fabric graphics within our own production facility. This gives us direct control over finished dimensions, sewing alignment, tension and delivery schedules.
The image is printed on the rear face of the clear acrylic, so the ink is viewed through the material and protected from direct contact. This delivers a premium, highly detailed result while virtually eliminating scratching of the printed surface during normal use.
Acrylic provides exceptional print quality, but large rigid panels can be difficult to transport and install. Backlit fabric is lighter, easier to pack and more practical for very large lightboxes and frequently changing retail campaigns.
We use colour profiles prepared for each backlit material on our printing systems and continuously monitor colour accuracy and production stability. For critical projects, the selected profile, ink-layer method and illuminated result are evaluated together.
Yes. We require accurate frame information, visible dimensions, finishing specifications and, where relevant, the existing graphic or frame profile. A sample fit may be advised for unfamiliar systems.
Yes. We can coordinate store-specific sizes, artwork versions, languages, production batches, labelling and project-based packing for multi-location retail campaigns.
