THE ART OF PRINTING ON WOOD
Printed artwork with the character of timber.
Wood has carried images for generations. Direct UV printing adds another way to produce bespoke artwork on a prepared flat surface, whether the brief calls for one piece, a photographic detail or a larger series of panels.
Natural grain can remain visible within a design. Since no two pieces of wood have exactly the same pattern, the substrate gives each print a slightly different appearance. White or coated boards offer a more consistent base when accurate colour and fine detail matter most.
THE RIGHT BASE FOR THE IMAGE
Choose the wood surface before the artwork is finalised.
Material colour, grain and absorbency change how an image reads. We review the chosen board, print coverage and intended finish together so the result suits the space and the design.
ARCHITECTURAL SPACES
Make a surface part of the interior story.
Printed wood and MDF can be used for decorative walls, feature panels and branded details in restaurants, cafés, hotels, airports and other commercial interiors. A single artwork can set the tone of a room; repeated panels can carry a consistent visual language across a site.
Natural grain works particularly well with restrained or organic artwork. For a crisp graphic or lighter colours on a dark board, specify a suitable base and consider a white ink layer.
RETAIL AND POINT OF SALE
Give display graphics a tactile setting.
Wood panels can carry campaign imagery, logos or wayfinding at sales and payment points. They can also form part of a wall display or a branded presentation area, connecting the graphic with the materials used in the store.
Print size, fixing method, viewing distance and finish should be considered at the start of the project. For multi-location programmes, sample approval and clear artwork control help maintain a consistent result.
DECORATIVE APPLICATIONS
Personalise panels, furniture and cabinetry.
Printed wood has applications in residential and commercial decoration, including selected kitchen and bathroom cabinet fronts, furniture panels, decorative wall pieces and photo artwork. A board with visible grain makes the image feel different from a conventional smooth print.
For cabinets and other frequently cleaned surfaces, the coating, print and any protective finish need to be chosen for the actual cleaning regime and exposure. Chemical resistance or suitability for wet areas should be demonstrated on the specified construction rather than assumed from the ink alone.
PRODUCTION CONSIDERATIONS
Flatness, finish and file quality matter.
Raw timber may absorb ink unevenly, which can be desirable for a rustic effect but less suitable for photographic reproduction. A white coated or prepared board is usually the better starting point for a clean, sharp image. Uneven natural wood should be checked for thickness and flatness before production.
The previous page lists a maximum print area of 2,500 × 3,000 mm and substrate thickness up to 50 mm. These are planning figures; current machine, board handling and finishing requirements should be confirmed for each job.
PROJECT PLANNING
From one-off artwork to repeat quantities.
Small individual pieces and larger panel programmes both benefit from a material sample. The existing page also refers to orders over 1,000 m² and international shipping. For a volume project, share the total area, number of versions, delivery destination and installation schedule so production and logistics can be priced accurately.
Provide the artwork at the intended size and identify whether natural grain should show through, or whether colour coverage and opacity take priority.
SMALL FORMAT POSSIBILITIES
Make individual objects personal.
The original page also highlights printed clocks and decorative wooden pieces. Single gifts, display samples and small batches can bring photography or illustration to a tactile substrate. The item shape and usable print area determine the production method and quotation.

PRICING
Price the complete construction.
A wood printing quotation depends on the substrate, panel dimensions, quantities, image coverage, artwork versions and print specification. CMYK, white ink and clear or varnish effects can change the production scope. Preparation, protective finishing, packing and delivery should also be included where required.
Repeat or large-volume work can affect unit cost. We will quote against a defined material and finish so that each price reflects the same specification.
