MATERIAL + METHOD

A graphic that works with the surface.

Acrylic, also called Plexiglass or PMMA, offers a clean face, visual depth and a choice of transparent, translucent and opaque appearances. Direct UV printing places the graphic on the specified face of the sheet. It is useful when the design calls for fine image detail, a white ink layer, or an intentionally visible clear area.

Opacity, colour and light transmission depend on the substrate and print build-up. We can prepare a sample to assess the result under the intended lighting before production.

WHERE IT FITS

From a small plaque to a large feature.

Typical briefs include reception and lobby signs, wayfinding, branded wall panels, retail displays, exhibition graphics and decorative interior pieces. A printed acrylic sheet can also be considered as a kitchen backsplash or as the face of an illuminated display when the complete installation is specified for that setting.

Share the size, viewing distance, colour target, mounting surface and whether the piece will be lit from behind. Those choices guide the material, artwork and print sequence.

SELECT THE PRINT FACE

Front printing or reverse printing?

Front surface

The graphic is printed on the face viewed by the audience. This gives a direct, often matte-looking image and allows selected areas to receive additional ink passes for a decorative raised texture. The printed layer is more exposed to handling and abrasion, so location and maintenance matter.

Second surface / reverse print

The image is mirrored and printed on the rear of clear acrylic. Viewed through the sheet, the surface adds gloss and depth while shielding the graphic from routine contact on the front. A white backing layer can make colour areas more opaque. Strong direct lighting may create reflections; diffuse lighting can help.

LIGHT TRANSMISSION

Backlit UV printing on acrylic.

Transparent and opal acrylic can be paired with a lightbox or LED system. White ink and controlled colour layers help manage how the image appears when the light is on and off. The selected sheet, light source, diffuser, distance and print build-up all affect brightness and colour.

The original page also discusses illuminated logos and signs. We recommend viewing a proof under the planned lighting rather than judging the artwork only on a monitor.

OPAQUE SUBSTRATE

White acrylic for clean, solid graphics.

White acrylic provides an opaque ground for photographs, patterns and brand colours without relying on a clear viewing face. It can suit decorative panels and selected interior surfaces where the material and fixing system meet the project brief.

For a backsplash, consider heat sources, cleaning chemicals, edges and penetrations before specifying the panel. Approval of a physical sample is especially useful where the print meets cabinetry or lighting.

DECORATIVE APPLICATIONS

Artwork for interior surfaces.

A printed acrylic backsplash can carry a continuous image or a repeat pattern behind a kitchen worktop. In retail and hospitality spaces, acrylic can add a polished graphic layer to feature walls, counters and display environments.

Choose an installation detail that allows for the sheet thickness, expansion, cleaning and the location of joints. For demanding heat or fire conditions, assess the full construction against the relevant project requirements.

LAYERED INK

Give selected details a raised finish.

Repeated UV ink passes can build a tactile surface on front-printed acrylic. Raised lettering, patterns or fine decorative details can give the graphic another dimension, especially when light catches the relief.

Relief height and durability depend on the artwork, ink system and handling. If a project needs accessible Braille or other regulated tactile signage, specify the applicable standard and request a separately verified solution.

DEPTH EFFECT

Combine a clear face with layered graphics.

The original page presents a layered plexiglass concept using a thicker clear face, reverse-printed colour and a white rear layer. A 15 mm acrylic sheet is one example when the design calls for visible depth. The suitable thickness and fixing method depend on size, weight and location.

Decorative stand-off fixings can lift the finished piece away from a wall, adding a shadow line. The graphic should be planned around screw positions, clearances and the intended viewing angle.

FABRICATION CHOICES

Shape the print to the installation.

Square and rectangular panels are straightforward options. Custom contour cutting can follow a logo or leave a deliberate border around the artwork. The final edge depends on sheet grade, thickness and cutting method.

A router or saw cut typically leaves a matte edge. Laser cutting can produce a polished-looking edge on suitable acrylic; an edge finish should be approved against the physical material and project tolerances. Holes, notches and wall clearance must be coordinated before printing.

INSTALLATION

Mount it with the panel in mind.

Decorative capped screws and stand-offs can create an architectural sign with space behind the panel. Larger panels may need additional fixings or another engineered support system. Hole position, sheet thickness, wall type and load all influence the detail.

Acrylic can chip or crack when drilled or over-tightened. Plan the mounting method before fabrication, keep protective film in place as appropriate and use experienced installers.

AFTERCARE

Keep the clear surface clear.

Clean with a soft, damp, non-abrasive cloth and a cleaner approved for the supplied acrylic and print. Avoid sharp objects and abrasive pads. Store or transport panels with soft protective packing so faces and edges do not rub against each other.

For heavy-use public environments or exterior exposure, confirm material, print, protection and maintenance as a complete specification.

PRINT THEN FORM

Printing for a later vacuum-forming process.

The original English page describes flexible UV ink options for printed acrylic sheets that may be vacuum formed after printing. Such work requires an agreed sheet, artwork position, forming geometry and tests for stretch, adhesion and colour change.

Boran Reklam provides the printing stage; vacuum forming itself is not presented here as an in-house service. Share the forming process and part drawings so a suitable printed sample can be evaluated with your forming partner.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Make the specification clear before production.

Can you print on clear and white acrylic?

Yes. Clear, white and light-diffusing acrylic create different visual results. We select the sheet and ink layers for the desired opacity and lighting.

Which side of the sheet should be printed?

Reverse printing suits a glossy, protected viewing face. Front printing makes the ink surface visible and allows decorative raised effects. The best choice depends on location and handling.

Can the panel be used outdoors?

Outdoor use requires a project-specific assessment of sheet grade, UV exposure, fixing, movement and expected maintenance. We can review the conditions and propose a sample.

What thickness should I choose?

The Turkish guide describes 3 mm as a common starting point and 15 mm as an example for increased depth. Actual thickness depends on dimensions, rigidity, weight and mounting.

Can you cut holes or a custom shape?

Rectangles, contour cuts and fixing holes can be planned in the artwork and fabrication brief. Send a dimensioned drawing or wall plan to confirm the approach.

How is pricing calculated?

Sheet type, thickness, size, print coverage, white layers, finishing, quantity and mounting requirements affect the quotation. We confirm the production specification with your artwork.

WHAT TO SEND

Start with a useful brief.

Tell us the panel dimensions and quantity; whether it is clear, white or opal; front or reverse viewing; intended lighting; indoor or outdoor location; preferred edge and cut shape; and how it will be mounted. Include artwork or a visual reference and the delivery schedule.

For backlit graphics, raised effects and post-print forming, a sample approval helps resolve the most important details before the full run.
