When Light Becomes Part of the Artwork

Two Lightboxes. One Demanding Color Challenge.

Two illuminated artworks produced for Deniz Ezgi Sürek at Galleria, with color reproduction precisely controlled for 6000 K LED illumination.

THE PROJECT

Color Designed for Light

For Galleria, Boran Reklam produced two illuminated artworks for artist Deniz Ezgi Sürek. The requirement went beyond producing a high-quality print: the artwork had to maintain accurate and consistent color once illuminated.

Because the finished pieces would be viewed under 6000 K LED lighting, the light source itself became part of the color reproduction process.

THE CHALLENGE

Matching Color Under 6000 K LED

In illuminated artwork, color behaves differently from conventional prints. The printed image, diffusion material and LED color temperature all influence how individual tones are perceived.

The objective was therefore not simply to match the original artwork under ambient light, but to reproduce the intended colors when the finished lightbox was actually illuminated.

OUR APPROACH

Treating the Light Source as Part of the Printing System

The artworks were prepared and tested specifically for their final illuminated application.

Color reproduction was evaluated under the actual 6000 K LED lighting conditions, allowing our production team to compensate for the way transmitted light changes the appearance of individual tones.

Instead of treating printing and illumination as two separate processes, they were evaluated as one complete visual system.

TECHNICAL FOCUS

Print. Diffusion. Light.

For illuminated graphics, the final visual result is created by the interaction between the printed image, the diffusion layer and the light source behind it. Testing the complete system under its intended lighting conditions allows color to be controlled where it matters most: in the finished installation.

THE RESULT

Controlled Color in the Final Illuminated Artwork

The result was two finished lightboxes designed to reproduce Deniz Ezgi Sürek’s artworks with controlled and consistent color once illuminated.

By evaluating the artwork under the same 6000 K LED conditions used in the final installation, the printed image could be optimized for the way visitors would actually experience the work.
